About Us

Skyline Pastures began as an idea long before it became a farm. For years, the plan lived mostly on paper—until Tanya encouraged turning intention into action. What started as a carefully thought-out project has grown into a working farm focused on producing high-quality food for families who care where their food comes from.

Our background, including years of military service, shaped the discipline, planning, and follow-through required to operate a small farm well. While we intend to grow steadily over time, we are not aiming to become a large commercial operation. Our focus is on knowing our customers, building lasting relationships, and producing the best food our land can provide. Education and demonstration have followed naturally, as other farmers seek to learn from systems that are both practical and profitable.

Ethics

We raise animals in ways that respect their natural behaviors and prioritize welfare throughout their lives. Good food starts with animals that are well cared for, on systems designed with intention rather than shortcuts.

Stewardship

Our farming practices are guided by long-term land health. Pastures and forests are managed to improve soil, support resilience, and leave the land better than we found it.

Scale

Skyline Pastures is intentionally small. Managing livestock at a scale we can oversee personally allows us to maintain quality, adapt to conditions, and stay connected to both the land and our customers.

Transparency

We believe customers deserve clear, honest information about how their food is raised. We share what works, what doesn’t, and why we make the decisions we do—on the farm and beyond.

CJ Lafferty

CJ brings a background shaped by military service, leadership, and systems-based planning to the day-to-day management of Skyline Pastures. That experience informs everything from grazing strategies to long-term farm planning. In addition to producing food for families, CJ actively shares lessons learned through grants, research projects, farm walks, and public education—helping other farmers succeed by showing what works in real-world conditions.

Tanya Lafferty

Tanya manages the day-to-day operation of Skyline Pastures while CJ works his off-farm job. She is responsible for the daily care of the animals—feeding, watering, monitoring health, and addressing issues as they arise—ensuring consistency and attention to detail across the farm.

In addition to animal care, Tanya handles the farm’s bookkeeping and plays a key role in keeping the operation organized and running smoothly. Her ability to manage logistics, anticipate needs, and make sound decisions behind the scenes is essential to the farm’s success. Simply put, Skyline Pastures would not function without her steady leadership and commitment.

Family is at the center of how Tanya approaches both life and farming, and that mindset naturally extends to animal husbandry. She and CJ make decisions together, balancing long-term planning with the realities of daily farm work to ensure the operation remains sustainable, practical, and grounded.
